Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has called on the Nigerian diaspora and global investors to play a pivotal role in advancing Edo’s economic reforms, as he opened the 2025 Edo State Global Investment Summit on Sunday.
Addressing participants at the Glasgow-hosted forum themed “Catalytic Partnerships: Global Funding & Local Impact,” Okpebholo described Edo’s diaspora as a strategic partner in accelerating industrialisation, agribusiness, technology, and infrastructure development.
He noted that many Edo indigenes abroad possess the skills, capital, and networks needed to help unlock the state’s potential.
“The summit is more than an investment drive; it is an invitation to our brothers, sisters, and partners worldwide to co-create a new Edo,” he said.
The governor highlighted reforms in power supply, transportation, tourism, and digital innovation, which he said were laying the groundwork for sustainable growth.
Delegates at the summit include representatives of UK-based Nigerian business groups, venture capital firms, and multilateral development agencies. Panels will explore funding models, diaspora entrepreneurship, and strategies to channel remittances into productive sectors.
Okpebholo assured participants of Edo’s commitment to transparency and investor protection, adding that partnerships built through the summit would help convert diaspora remittances into long-term wealth creation and jobs for residents at home.
