The Diaspora chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria has formally adopted its 2026 Constitution, marking a significant restructuring aimed at strengthening its global operations and representation of young Nigerians abroad.
Diaspora President Collins Idahosa described the new constitutional framework as a defining step in repositioning the council as the recognised coordinating body for Nigerian youth organisations across different countries. He said the document reinforces the council’s commitment to accountability, transparency and structured leadership.
According to him, the revised constitution establishes four key organs to drive its mandate. These include the Diaspora Youth Congress as the apex decision-making body and the Diaspora Executive Council responsible for administration and implementation of policies.
The structure also introduces a Diaspora Board of Trustees to oversee legal and ethical compliance, alongside a Diaspora Advisory Council tasked with providing professional guidance, mentorship and policy direction.
Idahosa reiterated that the council’s central objective remains the empowerment of Nigerian youths in the diaspora to contribute meaningfully to national development while maintaining cultural identity and global competitiveness.
He further announced that August 22, 2026, has been designated as Nigeria Diaspora Youth Day. The event will be held in London and will coincide with the council’s 62nd anniversary symposium, bringing together young professionals and stakeholders for dialogue on youth advancement and nation-building.
The NYCN Diaspora leadership urged Nigerians living abroad to actively participate in its programmes and decision-making processes, stressing that inclusivity and collaboration will be critical to achieving sustainable impact within the global Nigerian youth community.
