NSC President Urges Acting IG to Decentralise Tactical Squads

The President of the Nigeria Supreme Council has called on Acting Inspector-General Kayode Disu to decentralize tactical police squads to enhance operational efficiency nationwide.

He argued that decentralization would enable faster response to emerging security threats, particularly in rural and underserved communities where centralized command structures may slow intervention.

Security stakeholders contend that over-centralization has limited flexibility in deployment and constrained rapid tactical decisions during emergencies.

The recommendation comes amid broader discussions on police reform and the need for structural adjustments to improve public safety outcomes.

Observers believe that strategic decentralization, coupled with improved training and intelligence coordination, could strengthen law enforcement capacity and rebuild public trust in policing institutions.
