The Nigeria Immigration Service has announced a scheduled maintenance exercise on its Passport Digital Platform, a move expected to temporarily affect access for users across the country. The agency confirmed that the maintenance window will run from midnight on 12 December to 6 a.m. on 14 December 2025.

According to the service, the planned downtime is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the efficiency, speed and security of its digital passport infrastructure. Officials noted that users may encounter slow responses, limited access or full interruptions while the upgrade is underway.

The agency emphasised that the exercise is a routine but necessary step to improve the reliability of its online services. It added that strengthening the back-end systems remains a priority as demand for digital passport applications continues to grow.

NIS assured the public that its technical teams are working around the clock to complete the maintenance within the stated period. It urged applicants to remain patient, stressing that the upgrades will lead to a more seamless experience once full service is restored.

Users requiring help during the outage have been directed to reach out through the agency’s official support channels, including email and verified social media accounts. The service reaffirmed that assistance will remain available despite the temporary limitations on the platform.

In addition to the planned maintenance, NIS revealed that it has activated new temporary online complaint channels. This comes after its former support accounts were taken offline due to unspecified technical issues.

The new channels, created on X and Instagram, are intended to ensure continuous communication with applicants dealing with passport or visa-related challenges. The agency said the measure will help prevent disruptions in public engagement during the transition.

NIS encouraged applicants facing difficulties to submit their concerns through the designated temporary handles, noting that the platforms will remain active until its primary support systems are fully restored.
