A Nigerian national, Opeyemi Olujobi, and his wife, Jennie Davidson, are facing up to 50 years in prison in the United States over an alleged credit card fraud scheme valued at more than $500,000.
The couple were arrested in Poughkeepsie, New York, as part of a federal investigation into identity theft and financial fraud. Authorities confirmed that both suspects are scheduled to appear before a U.S. Magistrate Judge in White Plains.
According to prosecutors, the pair allegedly carried out a coordinated scheme involving the use of stolen personal information belonging to multiple victims. The operation reportedly targeted individuals with established credit profiles.
Investigators said the suspects gained unauthorised access to hundreds of credit card accounts by impersonating legitimate account holders and manipulating account credentials.
They were also accused of changing account details and requesting replacement cards, which were delivered to addresses under their control to avoid detection.
Authorities further alleged that the fraudulent cards were used to make purchases across various retail outlets, including gift cards and high-value merchandise.
The total value of the unauthorised transactions is estimated to exceed $500,000, making the case one of significant financial impact on victims.
The case was announced by Jay Clayton, who stated that the suspects were part of a broader conspiracy involving identity theft and account takeovers.
The defendants are facing multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit mail fraud, wire fraud, and bank fraud, alongside access device fraud and aggravated identity theft. Davidson is also facing an additional charge of money laundering
If found guilty, the combined charges carry severe penalties that could result in a prison sentence of up to 50 years. The case remains before the court, and both defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
