The Nigerian Navy has intensified its call for deeper collaboration with the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) in the field of hydrography. The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Abdullahi Mustapha, made this appeal during a familiarization visit to NIMASA Headquarters to discuss maritime safety and navigational security.

Rear Admiral Mustapha noted that the current "tranquillity" within the Nigerian maritime domain is a direct result of the long-standing partnership between the two agencies. He emphasized that hydrography the science of surveying and charting water bodies is essential for sustaining this safety and ensuring that Nigerian waters remain navigable for international trade.
A key proposal discussed during the visit was the integration of NIMASA’s C4i Centre with the Navy’s Falcon Eye system. Mustapha argued that enhanced information sharing through these high-tech platforms would create a more seamless security architecture, allowing for real-time monitoring and faster response to maritime threats.
The FOC also commended NIMASA for providing the platforms used under the "Deep Blue Project," which are currently operated by the Nigerian Navy. He noted that the recent acquisition of two specialized hydrographic vessels has already improved the ability to identify and remove wrecks that pose hazards to shipping.

In a statement by NIMASA’s Head of Public Relations, Osagie Edward, both organizations reaffirmed their commitment to the partnership. They agreed that continued synergy is the only way to safeguard the nation’s blue economy and maintain the positive momentum gained in reducing piracy and other maritime crimes.
