A 29-year-old Nigerian man, Chiemka Okoronta, has been jailed for 10 years in the United Kingdom for raping a 17-year-old girl he lured after offering to share a taxi when her bus service ended unexpectedly in Leeds.

The incident occurred on March 25 when the victim, travelling home to Bradford, was left stranded after the night bus terminated at Morley. With her phone dead and little money left, she accepted Okoronta’s offer to split a cab. Instead of taking her home, he diverted the taxi to his flat, where he sexually assaulted her multiple times.

Okoronta, of Morley Street, Bradford, was found guilty of three counts of rape and one count of causing a person to engage in sexual activity. He was handed a 10-year prison term, followed by an additional three years on extended licence, meaning he will remain under supervision after release.

The court also confirmed that Okoronta is expected to be deported to Nigeria once he completes his prison term, as his immigration status will be reviewed by the UK Home Office following his release. This means that after serving the 10-year custodial sentence and the additional three years on extended licence he will likely be removed from the country rather than allowed to remain in the UK.

Officials said the deportation order is standard procedure for foreign nationals convicted of serious offences, especially those involving sexual violence.
