A 26-year-old Nigerian national, Afeez Olatunji Adewale, has been extradited to the United States to face federal charges tied to a sexual extortion case linked to the death of a teenager in Pennsylvania.
U.S. authorities confirmed that Adewale was extradited from Nigeria on February 13, 2026, following his arrest in August 2023 as part of a larger FBI operation targeting individuals accused of sexually exploiting minors.
He is facing charges of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Adewale appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Lynne A. Sitarski in federal court in Philadelphia on Monday, where the court reviewed his detention and legal proceedings.
The extradition was carried out with collaboration between the FBI and Nigerian law enforcement, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Ministry of Justice.
Two other Nigerians, Imoleayo Samuel Aina, 27, and Samuel Olasunkanmi Abiodun, 26, had already been extradited to the U.S. in August 2024 in connection with the same case.
Court records show that Abiodun pleaded guilty to conspiracy and wire fraud, receiving a five-year prison sentence, while Aina was sentenced to six years after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including cyberstalking and extortion.
The FBI Philadelphia Field Office and Abington Township Police Department investigated the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Brown prosecuting. U.S. authorities emphasized that Adewale is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
