A 46-year-old Nigerian national has been taken into custody by police in Thailand over his alleged involvement in a cocaine distribution network operating within Bangkok’s nightlife areas.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect, identified as Nwaiwu Ifeanyi Placid, was apprehended during a targeted operation in the Silom district. Law enforcement officers reportedly recovered about 27 grammes of cocaine at the time of his arrest.

The operation also led to the arrest of three additional suspects, including a European national and two Thai citizens, all facing charges related to drug possession. In total, officers seized roughly 30 grammes of cocaine alongside other items such as cash, foreign currency, a vehicle, and jewellery.

Investigators linked the arrests to a broader crackdown on a drug syndicate that has been under surveillance for several months. Earlier operations had resulted in multiple arrests and the confiscation of significant assets connected to the group.

Police disclosed that intelligence gathering efforts, including infiltration of communication channels used by the network, helped track the movement of key suspects. One individual, identified as a long-term resident in Thailand, is believed to play a central role in coordinating drug distribution activities without intermediaries.

During the arrest, officers said the Nigerian suspect resisted but was subdued and later admitted to the allegations during questioning.

All suspects remain in custody as investigations continue, with authorities working to dismantle the wider network and identify additional collaborators.
