The Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation–Americas (NiDOA) has appealed for stronger collaboration between citizens at home and those abroad to drive Nigeria’s sustainable development and improve its global image.
Speaking with youth journalists, NiDOA Continental Chair, Dr. Victor Ubani, urged Nigerians to de-escalate tensions following a recent online exchange involving Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), and a social media user — an incident that drew sharp reactions on X (formerly Twitter).
Ubani cautioned that the clamour for sanctions against perceived offenders reflects public anxiety about the spread of ethnic bigotry, which he warned could deepen existing divisions in the country.
“Unchecked bigotry can fracture an already polarised society,” Ubani said.“Let us forge ahead with a new path to rebrand Nigeria and take our beloved country to greater heights.”
He called on all Nigerians, regardless of location, to work collectively toward rebranding the nation’s image, promoting patriotism, and supporting initiatives that advance economic and social growth.
Ubani also urged those angered by the recent controversy to focus on constructive dialogue and positive action, noting that national progress depends on unity and mutual respect.
“Let us look beyond the recent events and move our country forward,” he added.“Working together, we can achieve meaningful development and present Nigeria in a better light globally.”
NiDOA, which represents Nigerian professionals and communities across the Americas, has consistently championed diaspora engagement as a key driver of investment, skills transfer, and policy advocacy for Nigeria’s future.
