In the lead-up to the 2025 National Diaspora Day celebrations, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) on Monday welcomed Nigerian-American philanthropist Dr. Krystal Chanchangi and her daughter, Kleopatra, at its headquarters in Abuja for a strategic engagement session.

Representing the Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Commission's Secretary, Dr. Sule Yakubu Bassi, described the meeting as part of ongoing efforts to deepen ties with the Nigerian diaspora. According to Dr. Bassi, the Commission remains committed to harnessing diaspora potential across five key areas: resources, talents, skills, global exposure, and networks.

Highlighting the significance of diaspora remittances exceeding $20 billion annually Dr. Bassi noted that this year's National Diaspora Day, scheduled for July 25–26, will host 1,000 in-person attendees and over 10,000 virtual participants from across the globe. He emphasised NiDCOM’s mission to link diaspora expertise and investment with Nigeria’s economic development and governmental initiatives.

Dr. Chanchangi expressed gratitude for the warm reception and commended the Commission for involving the diaspora in national discourse. Calling the invitation a "call to greater responsibility," she praised the event as a critical platform for reconnecting Nigerians abroad with their heritage and mobilising contributions toward national progress.

She also announced an upcoming Soccer Charity Event in collaboration with Nigerian football star Jude Ighalo. The event is set to take place on Saturday, June 22, 2025, at 2 p.m., at the National Stadium, Abuja.

“I believe in giving back, and you don’t have to be rich to make a difference. Every diaspora member has something to offer whether in education, engineering, the arts, or hospitality,” she said.
Her daughter, Kleopatra, who was introduced as a young diaspora ambassador, expressed excitement about participating in the National Diaspora Day and shared her desire to perform a cultural dance as part of the festivities.

The meeting concluded with a strong call to action: instill patriotism and cultural pride in the next generation of Nigerians abroad.
