The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has alerted the public to a security breach involving her personal email account, urging caution in all related communications.

In a public statement released on Friday via her verified social media platform, Dabiri-Erewa disclosed that her email had been compromised by unknown hackers. She described the development as a serious security issue and advised recipients to disregard any messages originating from the affected address until full control is restored.

She further cautioned colleagues, partners, and members of the public against responding to suspicious emails, noting that such communications may not be legitimate.

The NiDCOM boss also acknowledged that the breach may disrupt her ability to respond to correspondence, revealing that a significant number of emails could have accumulated during the period of unauthorized access.

Meanwhile, the commission recently confirmed the safe return of three Nigerian nationals who had been stranded at an airport in South Africa. The agency expressed concern over the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to NiDCOM, many travel-related issues involving Nigerians abroad are linked to the use of unregulated visa agents. These intermediaries often complete critical sections of visa applications without the applicants’ full knowledge, including travel details and purpose of visit.

The commission warned that such practices frequently leave travellers unable to defend the information submitted on their behalf during immigration checks, increasing the risk of denial of entry.

NiDCOM reiterated the need for Nigerians to follow official visa application processes and remain vigilant to avoid similar situations.
