The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has praised the Unveiling and Rebranding Nigeria Initiative (UNRI) for its efforts to project a positive image of the country worldwide.
Speaking on behalf of Chairman/CEO Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, NiDCOM Secretary Dr. Sule Yakubu Bassi received the UNRI delegation in Abuja on Friday. He commended the organisation’s commitment to countering negative narratives about Nigeria and urged it to align its vision with NiDCOM’s diaspora engagement framework.
Bassi highlighted the Commission’s mandate to engage, empower, and harness the potential of Nigerians abroad for national development. He warned against the socio-economic and political damage caused by misinformation and pledged NiDCOM’s readiness to work with credible partners to promote a balanced global narrative.
Brig.-Gen. David Buba Shaljaba (Rtd), who led the UNRI team, said the initiative aims to spotlight Nigeria’s strengths in culture, innovation, and diplomacy while inspiring young people with employable skills to boost self-reliance and entrepreneurship.
He added that a partnership with NiDCOM would broaden the programme’s reach across diaspora communities.
Founded in 2007 and formally launched this year, UNRI is a non-governmental organisation dedicated to rebranding Nigeria through storytelling, cultural diplomacy, digital campaigns, and innovation.
