The intervention was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday via the NEMA Sokoto Facebook page, noting that the distribution exercise took place at the Government House, Sokoto.

The agency said the intervention followed reports of widespread destruction of homes, farmlands, and livelihoods across several communities affected by flooding and windstorms in the state.

According to NEMA, the relief materials comprise food items, non-food items, and building materials, all aimed at providing immediate assistance and helping to stabilise the living conditions of victims.

Speaking on behalf of the Director-General of NEMA, the Head of Operations at the NEMA Sokoto Operations Office, Aliyu Kafindangi, said the exercise underscored the Federal Government’s commitment to alleviating the hardship faced by disaster victims.

“These disasters destroyed homes, farmlands, and livelihoods, and the relief materials were released following joint damage and needs assessments conducted by NEMA, SEMA, and other relevant stakeholders,” Kafindangi said.
“The items are not for sale. They are meant to provide immediate support to victims and stabilise their living conditions. I commend the Sokoto State Government and other partners for their collaboration, and I urge residents to always heed early warning messages,” he added.

Responding, Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu, expressed appreciation to NEMA and the Federal Government for the intervention, describing it as a major relief to affected communities, while reaffirming the state’s commitment to partnering with the agency to strengthen disaster preparedness, response, and resilience.
