The National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) has identified poor funding and inadequate manpower as major constraints limiting Nigeria’s armed forces from fully harnessing modern technology for operational effectiveness.

The disclosure was made by the Coordinator of the Centre, Major-General Adamu Laka, during the inauguration of the Naval Warfare Course 10 in Calabar. Laka was represented at the event by Brigadier-General Peter Gbor, Director of Intelligence at the NCTC.
Delivering a lecture titled “Leveraging Technology-Driven Intelligence for Effective Operations in the Military: AFN in Perspective,” Laka emphasised that advanced technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, have become central to modern military operations globally.
He noted that while there is growing institutional recognition of the importance of AI within Nigeria’s security architecture, progress has been hampered by limited funding, technical expertise gaps, weak coordination, and the absence of a clear strategic framework.

According to him, addressing these challenges is critical for improving intelligence gathering, decision-making, and battlefield effectiveness, especially as security threats continue to evolve in complexity across the country.
