Navy Works on Disputed Land Despite Court Order

The Nigerian Navy has been accused of ignoring a court order by continuing to build on a disputed piece of land in Lagos. A High Court in Epe had previously told everyone to stop work, but reports say construction is still going on.

The legal battle involves two groups, including Al-Gasali Global Ventures, who say the land belongs to them. The land is located in the Ibeju-Lekki area, which is a very busy part of Lagos. The case has now been shifted to March 2026 for further hearing.

Court documents show that an "interim injunction" was granted back in August 2024. This was meant to stop the Navy from entering or building on the land until the judge decided who actually owns it. However, the owners claim the Navy is ignoring this.

The people claiming the land say it was given to them as compensation by the Lagos State Government. They have a "Certificate of Occupancy" from 2014 to prove they are the rightful owners. They allege that naval officers used force to take over the site in July 2024.

Because of the tension, the court ruled that nothing should change on the land to prevent damage that cannot be fixed. The claimants are now asking the law to step in and make sure the Navy respects the court's decision.
