The National Association of Nigerian Students in Diaspora (NANS Diaspora) has welcomed the appointment of Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, describing the decision as both timely and well-deserved.

In a statement released on Friday, the association commended the Federal Government for entrusting the role to a seasoned diplomat, noting that his track record reflects competence and deep understanding of international relations.

The group’s president, Comrade Juwon Fayomi, said the appointment demonstrates a commitment to placing experienced individuals in strategic national positions, adding that Enikanolaiye’s selection aligns with the demands of Nigeria’s evolving foreign policy landscape.

According to the association, the new minister brings extensive diplomatic experience, having previously served in key foreign missions and advisory roles on international affairs. This background, it said, positions him to effectively navigate Nigeria’s global engagements.

NANS Diaspora stressed that his appointment comes at a critical period when Nigerian students abroad are grappling with tightening immigration policies, rising living expenses, and challenges in accessing consular support.

The group expressed confidence that Enikanolaiye would strengthen ties between Nigeria’s foreign missions and its diaspora communities, particularly students who represent a significant segment of the country’s global population.

It further noted that improved collaboration between government institutions and student bodies would enhance the welfare and academic pursuits of Nigerians studying overseas.

The association also pledged its willingness to partner with the minister in advancing policies that protect and empower Nigerian students abroad, while advocating for more responsive consular services.

NANS Diaspora concluded by urging the minister to prioritise inclusive policies and sustained engagement with Nigerians in the diaspora, expressing optimism about a productive and impactful tenure.
