MaryAnn Iji-Oduntan Bags King Charles’ Award for Voluntary Service, Dabiri-Erewa Hails UK-Based Nigerian Trailblazer

The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated Ms. MaryAnn Kikelomo Iji-Oduntan, a distinguished Nigerian community leader in the United Kingdom, on receiving the prestigious King Charles’ Award for Voluntary Service — the highest honour given to volunteer groups in the UK.

In a statement signed by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Director of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols at NiDCOM, Dabiri-Erewa described the award as a well-earned recognition of Iji-Oduntan’s long-standing dedication to empowering women, uplifting families, and nurturing young people in her community.

“This award is a proud moment for Nigeria and a shining testament to the resilience, compassion, and excellence of Nigerians in the Diaspora,” the NiDCOM chief stated.


“MaryAnn Iji-Oduntan’s work through initiatives such as Women Thrive, Food Thrive, Holiday Thrive, and Teen Thrive exemplifies the power of selfless service and grassroots impact.”

A passionate community project worker and Manager of the St. Barnabas Centre in Oldham, Greater Manchester, Iji-Oduntan has spent years leading programs that build confidence, support vulnerable families, and help individuals particularly women , unlock their full potential.


Dabiri-Erewa praised Iji-Oduntan not only for this prestigious milestone but also for being an inspiring role model for Nigerians worldwide.




“On behalf of the government and people of Nigeria, we celebrate your achievement and encourage others to emulate your exemplary leadership,” she said.

With this award, Iji-Oduntan joins a select class of honourees whose work continues to reshape and strengthen communities across the UK further cementing the vital contributions of the Nigerian diaspora.
