Nigerian reality TV star and social media influencer, Natacha Akide popularly known as Tacha has stirred controversy online following a candid revelation about the tough financial reality facing many Nigerians in the United Kingdom.
In a recent video that has since gone viral, Tacha, who currently resides in the UK, tackled what she described as a misguided perception among Nigerians back home that relocating overseas automatically equates to wealth and comfort.
Speaking directly to her audience, she dismissed this notion, saying, “Many people here are barely getting by. Some of the most financially unstable people I’ve come across are Nigerians living in the UK.”
She blamed the country’s steep cost of living for the hardship, highlighting that even basic services like transportation come at a high price. “You can easily spend hundreds of thousands of naira on just transportation. If you’re not using public trains, you’re burning through cash daily.”
Tacha didn’t discourage relocation entirely, but she urged Nigerians to make informed decisions rather than being swayed by social media glamour or peer pressure. “If you’re planning to move abroad, don’t do it thinking it’s paradise. Many Nigerians are struggling here just to keep their heads above water,” she warned.
Her blunt commentary has triggered strong reactions across digital platforms. While some applauded her honesty, others accused her of painting the diaspora experience with too broad a brush.
Still, her message struck a chord: the diaspora dream isn’t as golden as it appears on Instagram. For many, Tacha’s remarks served as a much-needed reality check.
