The Lagos State Government has seized 70 commercial motorcycles during a routine enforcement exercise carried out across major restricted routes on the Island axis of the state. The operation was conducted on Wednesday as part of efforts to ensure public safety and compliance with traffic regulations.

According to a statement released on Thursday by the Ministry of Transportation via its official X handle, the exercise commenced at about 9:30 a.m. and covered several strategic locations, including Falomo Underbridge, Marina, Coastal Road, Ajah Roundabout, Ogombo, Igboefon, Abraham Adesanya Junction, and 2nd Rainbow.

The statement, signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, explained that the enforcement targeted violations such as the illegal operation of commercial motorcycles on restricted highways, street trading, illegal parking, and the use of unapproved bus stops.

On the fate of the seized motorcycles, the Ministry stated that all impounded bikes would be forfeited to the state through the courts in accordance with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018. The government reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on traffic violations that endanger lives and disrupt free flow of movement.

The Ministry also thanked residents for their cooperation during the exercise, assuring the public of its continued commitment to keeping Lagos roads safe and orderly. The enforcement follows recent intensified operations by the Lagos State Taskforce, which impounded over 100 motorcycles across key corridors of the state.
