The Lagos State Government has announced plans to launch the second phase of the ‘Ounje Eko’ Farmers’ Subsidy Programme before the end of November 2025, aimed at strengthening the agricultural value chain, supporting local farmers, and improving access to quality feed and inputs to boost food production across the state.

The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Abisola Olusanya, disclosed this during a press briefing at Alausa, Ikeja, explaining that the initiative remains a strategic intervention of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration to ensure food affordability and price stability during the festive season.
According to Olusanya, the first phase of the programme, launched earlier this year, recorded remarkable success, with over 5,000 farmers benefiting from the intervention through the distribution of 993.3 metric tons of poultry feed and 265.65 metric tons of fish feed across the state.
She noted that the scheme sustained the production of 258,000-layer birds, yielding over seven million eggs and 177,100 catfish, while the price of eggs dropped from ₦6,000 per crate to between ₦5,000 and ₦5,400, providing significant relief to households and businesses.

Building on these achievements, the commissioner stated that Governor Sanwo-Olu had approved the implementation of Phase II, which expands the programme’s reach and scope to provide even greater support to farmers in various agricultural sectors.
“The second phase of the ‘Ounje Eko’ Farmers’ Subsidy Programme will include a 25 per cent subsidy on poultry feed layer mash, broiler starter and finisher, as well as a 25 per cent subsidy on fish feed to help farmers scale up production and reduce costs,” Olusanya said.
“Other interventions include the free distribution of grains to pig farmers and the provision of agricultural equipment and farm inputs to crop farming clusters across Lagos to enhance mechanisation, reduce manual labour, and sustain long-term productivity,” she added.
Olusanya explained that the second phase of the scheme will be implemented across 10 key locations, including Agege, Epe, Badagry, Ikorodu, Ojo, Ajah, and the Armed Forces Resettlement Centre, among others. She emphasised that only registered and recognised farmer associations such as PAN-LAG, LASCAFAN, and Farm Estate and Settlement Associations will be eligible. The state government urged farmers to register with the necessary associations to benefit from the initiative.
