A Kurdish diaspora coalition has intensified international advocacy for the proposed “Save the Kurds Act” before the U.S. Congress, with a global online petition drawing more than 151,000 signatures in a matter of days. The campaign targets bipartisan backing amid renewed security concerns in northeastern Syria.
Jihan Brifki, an adviser to the Kurdistani Diaspora Confederation in North America, said the surge reflects growing global concern over the safety of Kurdish civilians in the Rojava region. She explained that the initiative is designed to translate public support into diplomatic pressure on U.S. lawmakers as regional instability persists.
According to Brifki, the mobilisation gained momentum after U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham publicly urged congressional support for the bill, prompting coordinated action across diaspora networks. She described the proposed legislation as a critical safeguard for Kurdish communities facing ongoing military threats.
The petition, hosted online and open to signatories worldwide, has expanded rapidly beyond Kurdish communities, attracting supporters from multiple countries. Organisers say the scale of participation strengthens their case when engaging American political leaders.
Brifki confirmed that senior U.S. figures, including the president, secretary of state and key senators, have been formally referenced in the campaign, which is being pursued through established diplomatic and legislative channels. She added that outreach efforts are ongoing across party lines to secure durable congressional backing.
Beyond legislative advocacy, the campaign also aims to raise global awareness about Kurdish history and current humanitarian challenges. Organisers argue that sustained public engagement is essential to keeping the issue on the U.S. policy agenda and ensuring long-term support for Kurdish allies in Syria.
