Internal Strife Rocks APC Governors Clash Over NWC Slots

Governors within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are reportedly locked in a heated confrontation over the filling of vacant positions within the National Working Committee (NWC). The disagreement stems from a power struggle regarding which geopolitical zones and specific state blocs should produce candidates for the administrative organ of the party.

The tension escalated following the resignation and movement of former NWC members into executive appointments. Sources within the party indicate that various "progressive governors" are keen on installing loyalists to consolidate their influence ahead of upcoming electoral cycles. This internal friction has slowed down the party’s ability to present a unified front on administrative reforms.
At the heart of the crisis is the perceived imbalance in the distribution of offices. Some governors argue that the existing zoning formula must be strictly adhered to, while others are pushing for a realignment based on current political contributions to the party’s success in the last general elections. The lack of a consensus candidate for key roles has created visible camps within the Governors' Forum.
Party leadership, including the National Chairman, is reportedly under pressure to mediate the brewing crisis. There are concerns that if the "war" among the governors is not settled quickly, it could lead to litigations or parallel congresses in certain states. Such a development would undermine the party’s stability as it prepares for off-cycle governorship elections.

Observers believe that the outcome of this power play will determine the internal democratic health of the APC. For now, the NWC remains in a state of flux, with stakeholders calling for the intervention of the Presidency to prevent a total breakdown of order within the party’s top hierarchy.
