India’s global community of medical professionals has been recognised for its significant impact on healthcare systems worldwide, particularly in the United States, where physicians of Indian origin continue to play leading roles across clinical practice, research and innovation
The commendation came during a major international healthcare summit hosted in Bhubaneswar, bringing together medical experts, academics and industry leaders from across the globe for discussions on modern medicine and global collaboration.
Speaking virtually at the event, India’s Health Minister, Jagat Prakash Nadda, highlighted the critical role of Indian-origin doctors in shaping healthcare delivery internationally. He noted that their expertise, discipline and commitment have contributed significantly to advancements in patient care and medical research.
The summit, organised in collaboration with the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin, served as a platform for exchanging ideas, strengthening partnerships and addressing emerging global health challenges. It also marked the first time the event was hosted in Odisha, signalling growing recognition of the region in international medical circles.
Founder of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Achyuta Samanta, described the gathering as a milestone for the state, noting that hosting such a high-level event underscored Odisha’s rising profile in medical education and healthcare delivery.
Leaders at the summit emphasised the role of diaspora physicians as a bridge between India and the United States, fostering collaboration through research, training and knowledge exchange. The association, which represents a large network of Indian-origin doctors in the US, was also commended for its contributions to global health initiatives.
Participants engaged in a range of activities, including clinical workshops, panel discussions, and community health programmes focused on disease prevention, metabolic disorders and emerging medical technologies. The event also featured youth engagement initiatives aimed at inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Organisers said the summit reinforced the importance of international cooperation in addressing global health challenges, while showcasing India’s growing influence in the global medical landscape.
