Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has issued a strong warning to individuals and groups protesting against ongoing construction activities along the Ibadan Circular Road corridor, cautioning that the state government will not condone any attempt to obstruct the project.

The governor’s warning followed reports of demonstrations by some residents and landowners who claimed that parts of their lands were affected by the state’s acquisition process. Makinde said while his administration respects citizens’ rights to peaceful expression, public infrastructure projects must not be disrupted.

Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the governor described the Ibadan Circular Road as one of the most strategic infrastructure projects in the Southwest, designed to ease traffic congestion, enhance economic growth, and attract investors to Oyo State.

He noted that the project had suffered delays due to disputes and political interference in the past, adding that his administration was committed to ensuring its completion for the overall benefit of the people.

Makinde stressed that his government remains open to dialogue with affected residents but warned that any deliberate act of sabotage or misinformation about the project would be met with firm action.

“The Ibadan Circular Road is a people-oriented project, and no amount of blackmail or protest will stop its completion,” Makinde said. “Anyone found instigating unrest or obstructing construction workers will face the full wrath of the law. We have a duty to protect state investments and ensure order.”
“Our administration believes in fairness and transparency, but we also believe in discipline,” he added. “We will continue to engage genuine stakeholders, verify claims, and pay due compensation where necessary, but we will not allow lawlessness or selfish interests to derail the progress of Oyo State.”

The governor urged residents to cooperate with contractors and government officials working on the project, assuring that the Ibadan Circular Road, upon completion, would open new economic corridors, improve road safety, and redefine transportation within the state capital and beyond.
