Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), has commended the courage and determination of Ms. Chinyenwa Judith Amadi, a Nigerian female biker who completed a landmark journey from Lagos to France and back to Nigeria in support of cancer patients.

Dabiri-Erewa also praised Mr. Odera Okwvosa, a UK-based Nigerian professional boxer, fitness entrepreneur, and sportsman, for his patriotism and sustained efforts in mentoring young Nigerians at home and abroad.

Receiving both Nigerians at the NiDCOM Lagos office, the NiDCOM Chairman said their achievements reflect resilience, discipline, and a strong commitment to projecting a positive image of Nigeria globally. She described their actions as practical examples of how Nigerians in the diaspora can contribute meaningfully to national development.

She reaffirmed NiDCOM’s readiness to support and collaborate with Nigerians in the diaspora whose work positively impacts society, adding that the Commission remains open to partnerships that amplify such initiatives and inspire younger generations.

Amadi began her long-distance power bike journey on October 8, 2025, with the goal of raising ₦100 million to support cancer patients across Nigeria who cannot afford chemotherapy. Despite suffering a finger injury in an accident in Burkina Faso that required stitches, she pressed on and successfully completed the mission.

Describing the journey as physically and emotionally demanding, Amadi cited challenges such as poor road conditions, discrimination against Nigerians at some West African borders, extreme cold weather, and prolonged travel fatigue. She said her motivation remained firmly rooted in helping cancer patients and breaking limiting societal norms.

“I come from a background where women are not expected to do much, so I chose to ride for a cause and change that narrative,” Amadi said. The Owerri, Imo State-born biker, who is also a yoga and fitness instructor, urged young Nigerians to take bold steps toward their dreams without delay.

In a similar engagement, Dabiri-Erewa hosted Odera Okwvosa alongside his brother, Henry Okwvosa, praising the boxer for consistently promoting Nigeria’s image through social media and international engagements. Odera, who recently visited Nigeria during the “Detty December” festivities, said the country’s culture and the warmth of its people keep drawing him back home, adding that he plans to be more involved in NiDCOM’s future diaspora programmes.
