The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has showered praise on the Dangote Petroleum Refinery for ensuring a hitch-free festive season. In a statement issued on Friday, the group’s Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, noted that the usual scenes of long queues and panic buying at filling stations were noticeably absent during the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year celebrations.

For decades, Nigerians have grown accustomed to "fuel scarcity" becoming an unwelcome tradition every December. However, this year was different. Motorists were able to travel to their home states and celebrate with their families without the stress of hunting for petrol. MURIC attributes this stability directly to the refinery’s commitment to supplying millions of litres of fuel to the local market daily.
Professor Akintola described the relief felt by ordinary Nigerians as a significant milestone for the country’s economy. He noted that when fuel is available, the cost of transport and food remains more stable, easing the burden on the poor. The group called the refinery a "national asset" that must be protected from vested interests who might want to see it fail.
The refinery had previously announced plans to supply 1.5 billion litres of petrol monthly throughout December and January. This massive injection of product appears to have saturated the market, leaving no room for the "subsidy cabals" to create artificial scarcity. It is a shift that many hope will become the new permanent reality for Nigeria.

Despite the praise, MURIC also warned that the refinery still faces challenges, including securing enough crude oil to keep running at full capacity. The group urged the government to ensure 100% crude allocation to the facility to keep the pumps flowing. For now, however, the focus is on celebrating a holiday season that was, for once, free of the "fuel queue blues."
The facility currently has adequate stock and is producing between 40 and 45 million litres of PMS daily.”
