Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has approved the immediate release of the 2025 counterfunding for critical health interventions across the state. The State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Ekem John, announced the development on Thursday during a ministerial briefing in Uyo, confirming that the Governor signed the approval to ensure health services remain uninterrupted.

The approved funding is set to be released before the end of January 2026 and covers a wide range of essential programs. Key areas include health insurance, primary healthcare, immunization, family planning, and nutrition initiatives, all of which are vital to the administration’s "ARISE" agenda for human capital development.

Dr. John highlighted that the Ministry of Health has spent the preceding year focusing on infrastructure strengthening and staff welfare. He noted that the release of these funds will allow the ministry to translate these internal improvements into better health outcomes for the general public, particularly for vulnerable populations.

The Commissioner also used the briefing to provide an update on the state’s efforts regarding infectious diseases. He claimed that Akwa Ibom has achieved significant success in the control of Leprosy and Tuberculosis, attributing these gains to consistent policy reforms and the dedication of healthcare professionals in the field.

Looking ahead, the ministry expressed its readiness to maximize the newly approved resources to enhance service delivery. The Commissioner reiterated that the administration’s goal is to ensure that no citizen of Akwa Ibom is left behind in the quest for accessible and affordable healthcare services throughout the year.
