Governor Mbah Urges Diaspora to Invest in Enugu State

Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, Calls for Diaspora Investment

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has invited the Nigerian diaspora community to make Enugu their preferred investment destination. Speaking at a workshop organized by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) in collaboration with the Enugu State Government, Mbah emphasized that his administration has developed policies to ensure seamless investment opportunities and impressive returns.


Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, Mbah highlighted Enugu’s commitment to creating a business-friendly environment through initiatives such as simplified land access, guaranteed investment returns, and secure policies.




Mbah acknowledged the significant contributions of Nigerians abroad, referencing World Bank estimates of $20-$25 billion in annual remittances. He stressed the importance of harnessing the diaspora’s expertise, innovation, and networks to enhance trade and investment in Enugu.

The governor urged diaspora investors, particularly those of Igbo descent, to embrace homecoming investments. He pointed out the Southeast’s entrepreneurial spirit and the potential for collaborative growth across its five states. Mbah further underscored the administration’s vision to increase the state’s GDP from $4.4 billion to $30 billion through strategic diaspora partnerships.



Governor Mbah detailed several ongoing projects designed to attract diaspora investors, including:

  • Enugu State Electricity Market

  • New Enugu Smart City

  • Special Agro-Processing Zones

  • ICT Development Center

  • Transport Infrastructure Projects

These initiatives span agriculture, technology, education, energy, and more, creating diverse investment opportunities.


NiDCOM Chairman, Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, praised Mbah’s focus on infrastructure and security. She urged diasporans to seize investment opportunities in Enugu and the Southeast. Dabiri-Erewa also proposed establishing a diaspora investment fund to target specific sectors with high returns.



Mrs. Olangwa Ezekwu, Special Adviser to the Governor on Diaspora Matters, reiterated the state’s readiness to collaborate with diaspora investors. She called on them to invest in sectors like agriculture, education, tourism, health, ICT, and mining, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to fostering ease of business.
