Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has described the state’s engineering standards as a model worthy of emulation by other states across the country.

The governor stated this while receiving the leadership of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, led by its President, Engr. Aina Oguntala, during a courtesy visit to the Secretariat in Ibadan.

Represented by Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, Makinde urged the NSE to adopt Oyo State’s strict supervision model for building and engineering projects, stressing that such oversight is key to preventing structural failures.

He commended the NSE for choosing Oyo State as host of its week-long conference and encouraged the body to use the platform to address recurring national challenges such as building collapses.

Makinde also hailed Oguntala’s historic emergence as the first female president of the NSE, describing it as a testament to her dedication, professionalism, and leadership capacity.

“I wholeheartedly appreciate your visit, and I urge the NSE to study our engineering oversight system, which ensures that no project in the state is carried out casually but according to strict standards of durability and safety,” he said.
“Every major project in Oyo State roads, buildings and dams is rigorously monitored by qualified engineers, and we are proud to have set a standard that other states can follow,” he added.

Earlier, NSE President Oguntala commended the Makinde administration for creating a secure, business-friendly environment, adding that members were enjoying the state’s hospitality throughout the conference.
