Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has called on the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to immediately reinstate the operations of the Amotekun Corps in the state, warning that continued suspension exposes residents to growing security threats.

The governor raised concerns over the increasing cases of banditry and kidnapping in neighbouring Kwara State, cautioning that criminal activities could easily spill into Osun if proactive security measures are not restored, particularly in border communities.

In a statement issued on Friday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke said the sealing of Amotekun offices had significantly weakened the state’s security architecture, leaving rural and grassroots communities vulnerable.

Reacting to a recent abduction in Ora-Igbomina, the governor described Osun as being “crippled in its security response,” noting that several senior Amotekun operatives had remained in detention without trial for months.

Adeleke urged the police to either charge the detained officers—over the alleged killings in Akinlalu community—to court or release them, stressing that further delay in restoring Amotekun operations could jeopardise the safety of Osun residents.
