Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has firmly opposed the elongation of tenure for local government chairmen and councillors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as unconstitutional.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke stated that Nigerian law and Supreme Court precedents clearly prohibit the extension of tenure for elected officials beyond their legally approved term.
The governor maintained that the APC chairmen had effectively admitted their tenure had expired by approaching the Federal High Court for an extension, noting that their mandate lapsed on October 22, 2025.
Adeleke also accused former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of backing the chairmen, alleging that they continued to occupy local government secretariats with police support, actions he described as unlawful.

In response, ALGON Chairman in Osun State, Abiodun Idowu, dismissed the allegations, insisting that the chairmen were acting based on an Appeal Court judgment delivered on February 10, 2025, and vowed to remain in office pending further judicial clarification.
