Gov. Abiodun Unveils Train Station Road, Announces Plans for 20 More

In a major boost to the transportation network of Ogun State, Governor Dapo Abiodun on Tuesday officially inaugurated the Laderin–Prof. Wole Soyinka Train Station Road. The project is the first in a series of planned infrastructure reveals aimed at celebrating the state’s upcoming 50th anniversary. The governor used the occasion to announce a bold "Golden Jubilee" roadmap, which includes the completion of 20 additional roads across the state.

The timing of these projects is significant, as Ogun State created on February 13, 1976 will reach its 50-year milestone in February 2026. Governor Abiodun emphasized that the infrastructure push is intended to honor the state’s legacy while positioning it for future industrial growth. He noted that the newly unveiled road would significantly improve access to the rail corridor, facilitating easier movement for commuters and goods.

 A centerpiece of this infrastructure drive is the 100-kilometer "Ogun East West Connector," which stretches from the Sagamu Interchange through Papalanto to Opele. The governor described this project as a "game-changer" for regional trade. By using reinforced concrete for heavy-duty sections, the state aims to create a durable bypass that will allow trucks from industrial zones like Ota, Ifo, and Ewekoro to bypass the busy Abeokuta city center.

​Governor Abiodun explained that the strategic goal of the East-West Connector is to de-congest existing expressways and open up new corridors for commercial activities. "We have completely closed off sections for reconstruction to ensure we meet our high standards," the governor told the gathered crowd. He expressed confidence that the direct connection to the Sagamu Interchange would slash travel times for logistics companies and improve the overall ease of doing business

As the state prepares for its anniversary celebrations next month, the government is working against the clock to deliver on its promises. The governor reassured residents that the focus remains on "impactful projects" that touch every senatorial district. With 20 more roads scheduled for inauguration, the Abiodun administration is betting heavily on infrastructure to be the primary legacy of the state’s first half-century of existence.
