Ghana has announced plans to host the 2025 Diaspora Summit in December, an event aimed at strengthening ties between people of African descent worldwide and the continent, while mobilising their resources for sustainable development.

According to report the summit is scheduled for 19–20 December 2025 at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC). The initiative was officially launched on 17 September by Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who highlighted the summit’s potential to position Ghana as a hub for Pan-African engagement.

Themed “Resetting Ghana: The Diaspora as the 17th Region,” the gathering seeks to create strategic partnerships between Ghana, Africa, and the global African diaspora. Organisers say discussions will focus on investment opportunities, technology transfer, youth empowerment, and cultural collaboration.

In a move to encourage participation, the Ghanaian government announced a visa-free entry policy for Africans and people of African descent attending the summit. Officials described the policy as part of broader efforts to make Ghana a welcoming gateway for the diaspora.

The 2025 edition continues Ghana’s tradition of outreach to its diaspora community, following earlier initiatives such as the “Year of Return” (2019) and “Beyond the Return” campaigns, which attracted thousands of visitors and investors.

Further details on the programme, including keynote speakers and sector-specific forums, are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
