The government of Ghana has put an emergency preparedness plan into action to assist its citizens in the Middle East following heightened regional tensions. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said assessments are ongoing to determine the scale of evacuation needed.

Officials confirmed that several staff members of the Ghanaian Embassy in Tehran have already been evacuated, while essential personnel remain in place to coordinate assistance for nationals still in the country.

Ghanaian citizens in the region have been strongly advised to avoid non-essential travel, stay indoors, and comply with instructions issued by local authorities. The ministry emphasized caution in movement, especially near sensitive locations and public gatherings.

The government urged its nationals to maintain open communication with the nearest Ghanaian diplomatic mission, keep travel documents accessible, and closely monitor official updates to ensure personal safety.

Authorities stressed the importance of remaining calm and following safety guidelines while the situation develops, noting that the emergency plan can be scaled up rapidly if circumstances deteriorate.

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia reassured citizens that the government is fully committed to their protection abroad, highlighting that all necessary measures are in place to facilitate safe evacuation where needed.

The ministry also called on all parties involved in the Middle East conflict to exercise restraint, prioritize diplomacy, and seek peaceful solutions to prevent further escalation, protect lives, and maintain regional stability.
