The Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, has called on security operatives and other stakeholders at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, to provide efficient service to travelers and uphold integrity to improve the country’s image.

Ganduje made the call during a facility tour of the airport, emphasizing the need for effective coordination among stakeholders to ensure smooth operations and excellent customer service.

He highlighted ongoing projects, including work on the second runway at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, and praised the management of the second runway at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, as evidence of government commitment to aviation infrastructure.

The FAAN chairman commended the agency for upgrading facilities at Lagos and Abuja airports to meet international standards for ICAO certification and lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting the aviation sector.

Ganduje also noted challenges, including abandoned projects and overgrown grasses due to broken tractors, promising that the Board would facilitate equipment upgrades and improvements in airport landscaping to enhance aesthetics.

“We have been briefed that every month there is meeting with the major stakeholders at the airport. It is not only FAAN that will provide customer service that will make the airport more functional. There are other major stakeholders. The Nigeria Immigration is there, the Nigeria Customs Service is there, the NDLEA is there, the Nigeria Police Force is there, the military is there, the DSS is there, even Civil Defence is there, and also the private sector. So, I think it is very, very important to have good coordination and build good attitude of providing services to travelers,” he said.
“On the issue of corruption. We should have zero tolerance of corruption so that passengers, both local and international will not have a bad image on the country. So, we expect the security services to develop high standards so that our country will be proud of them,” Ganduje added.

He concluded that FAAN must continue to maintain safety, security, and infrastructural standards while optimizing available spaces, ensuring Lagos airport remains a top international hub in West Africa
