Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has achieved another major career milestone with her latest release, Behind The Scenes, which has surpassed ₦1 billion in box office revenue across Nigeria. The film’s success reinforces her position as one of the industry’s leading producers.

Distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, the movie has grossed approximately ₦1.11 billion since its debut. The distributor confirmed that the film also set a record for the highest single-day Boxing Day earnings, bringing in ₦129.5 million, a landmark achievement for Nollywood films in West Africa.

Behind The Scenes is currently the highest-grossing theatrical release of 2025. Funke Akindele has become the first filmmaker to deliver three consecutive films that each cross the ₦1 billion mark in a single calendar year, solidifying her record-breaking status in the Nigerian film industry.

The movie explores the theme of black tax, shedding light on the social and financial pressures faced by individuals supporting extended families. Audiences have resonated strongly with this theme, which combines relatable storytelling with entertainment value.

Scarlet Gomez leads the ensemble cast, joined by Funke Akindele, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, Uche Montana, Uzor Arukwe, Ini Dima-Okojie, Adebowale “Mr Macaroni,” Ibrahim Chatta, Kamo State, and reality stars Handi and Wanni Danbaki. The diverse cast contributes to the film’s wide appeal.

The film held advanced screenings on December 10 and 11 before opening nationwide on December 12. Within days, it surpassed the ₦200 million mark and went on to achieve what FilmOne described as “the biggest opening weekend of 2025,” quickly becoming the highest-grossing Nollywood title of the year.
