FG Unveils Diaspora Health Initiative to Deploy Nigerian Doctors Abroad

The Federal Government has unveiled plans to deploy Nigerian medical professionals in the diaspora to strengthen healthcare delivery nationwide. The initiative aims to harness global expertise to address gaps within Nigeria’s health sector.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, disclosed this during the unveiling of the Diaspora Health Impact Initiative 2026 in Abuja on Wednesday.

Commissioner for Livestock Development, Olufemi Bolarin, said the programme was designed to protect livestock from highly contagious cross-border diseases that threaten agricultural sustainability and economic stability. He emphasized that proactive animal healthcare remains central to improving rural livelihoods.

The meeting brought together a broad range of stakeholders, including farmers, veterinarians, animal scientists, traditional rulers, and security agencies. Discussions focused on strategy, logistics, and community mobilization to ensure effective coverage of livestock populations across local government areas.

According to her, the collaboration will not only improve healthcare access in underserved communities but also foster long-term partnerships between diaspora professionals and local institutions, strengthening Nigeria’s health infrastructure.
