The Federal Government has announced plans to demolish damaged portions of the Iddo Bridge in Lagos next week as part of reconstruction efforts.

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, disclosed this during an inspection of the bridge alongside officials from Julius Berger Nigeria Plc..

Umahi said six bridge spans three on each carriageway were found to be severely damaged and must be removed to ensure public safety.

He explained that traffic would be diverted in phases to allow demolition and reconstruction work to proceed smoothly without completely shutting down the bridge.

The minister added that the rehabilitation project, estimated to cost about ₦15 billion, is expected to be completed by June, with improvements aimed at meeting modern safety standards.
