The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to resolving industrial disputes through social dialogue while strengthening partnerships with organised labour to enhance workers’ skills and protections in line with global workforce demands.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Mohammad Maigari Dingyadi, disclosed this at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) in Abuja, noting that government remained dedicated to promoting decent work, harmonious labour relations and an enabling environment where both workers and employers can thrive.
Dingyadi acknowledged the economic challenges affecting various sectors, particularly those driven by technological disruptions, but commended labour unions for their resilience and professionalism. He said the Tinubu administration would continue to prioritise labour-government cooperation to improve workers’ welfare and productivity.
The minister urged ASCSN members to sustain their contributions to national development, describing the association as a dependable partner in job security, labour standards and workplace productivity. He added that the Ministry remained committed to strengthening policies that safeguard workers’ rights and advance national productivity.

He encouraged the union to use its NEC meeting to reflect on key labour issues and reaffirm its commitment to ethical unionism while offering constructive proposals that would support peace, equity and sustainable development in the labour sector.
“We must work together to equip our workforce with the skills and protections required for competitiveness in a rapidly changing global economy. The Ministry is committed to partnering with labour unions, employers and stakeholders to promote decent work and strengthen national productivity,” the minister stated.
“As you deliberate, be assured of the Ministry’s continued partnership and support. Together, we can build a labour environment that is fair, just and responsive to the needs of Nigerian workers and the aspirations of our nation,” he added.
Earlier, ASCSN President, Comrade Shehu Mohammed, highlighted the union’s achievements in the past year, including relocation of its national secretariat to Abuja, training programmes, pension reforms and advocacy on national security. He appealed to the Federal Government and state governors to improve security strategies nationwide, while urging members to remain committed to the union’s mission of championing workers’ welfare.
