The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to rebuilding public trust through honest, sincere, and purposeful communication, according to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris. He gave the assurance during the 2025 Nigeria Excellence Award in Public Service (NEAPS) and Dinner held on Sunday night in Abuja.

Idris, who was an award recipient at the event organised by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation in collaboration with The Best Strategic Media, said the recognition would motivate the ministry, departments and agencies to deepen their service to the nation. The NEAPS award marks his second honour in five days, following the Business Day Award for Excellence in Public Service on December 3.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, the minister described the acknowledgment of his work as a call to greater responsibility, stressing that strengthening communication for national development remains central to his mandate from President Bola Tinubu. He said the administration’s communication strategy is anchored on transparency and credibility.
He noted that one major challenge confronting the information sector is combating fake news, disinformation and misinformation, which he described as serious threats capable of undermining national stability. Idris emphasised that the ministry will continue to intensify efforts to ensure Nigerians receive accurate and timely information in line with established regulations.

The minister also acknowledged the collective contribution of agency heads, directors and staff of the ministry, saying their combined efforts were driving the ongoing reforms in the information and communication sector. He expressed optimism that the progress recorded so far would make meaningful impact as the country advances the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“This is a country that all of us love; recognising our contribution to nation building is heartwarming and will make us do even more for our country,” he said.
“We will continue to restore trust in public communication. We want to also look at ways and means of fighting fake news, disinformation and misinformation, because these are very dangerous issues that can make or mar a society.”
Idris urged Nigerians to remain united and committed to the nation’s progress, stressing that the prosperity promised under President Tinubu’s leadership can only be achieved through collective effort. He called on citizens to believe in the country and work together to strengthen its democracy and development trajectory.
