The Federal Government has directed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to strictly comply with the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) as part of efforts to enhance fiscal discipline and budget credibility. The directive underscores renewed emphasis on responsible public financial management.

Government officials stated that adherence to the MTEF would ensure that annual budgets remain aligned with medium-term revenue projections and macroeconomic assumptions. Deviations from the framework, they warned, could undermine fiscal sustainability and investor confidence.
The directive comes amid growing scrutiny over budget deficits and rising public debt levels. By reinforcing MTEF compliance, authorities aim to reduce inconsistencies between projected and actual expenditures while strengthening long-term planning.
Economic analysts view the move as a positive step toward improving transparency and accountability in public spending. However, they stress that effective monitoring and enforcement mechanisms will be crucial to achieving desired outcomes.

As Nigeria continues to navigate economic reforms, strict implementation of fiscal frameworks may prove essential in stabilizing the macroeconomic environment and restoring confidence in public finance governance.
