The Federal Government, through the National Health Fellows (NHF) Programme, has called on qualified young Nigerians to apply for the next cohort of fellows who will support efforts to strengthen primary healthcare systems across the country.

The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, which explained that the fellowship was created to address persistent gaps in Nigeria’s healthcare sector by training and deploying young professionals to communities nationwide.
The initiative, supported by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, targets Nigerians aged 25 to 35 with academic backgrounds in health sciences, social sciences, and other related fields, providing them with structured training, mentorship, and field placements across all 774 local government areas.
The Ministry noted that the programme forms a key component of the government’s plan to build a stronger primary healthcare workforce capable of improving health outcomes and expanding access to essential services, especially at the grassroots level.

Speaking on the programme, the Honourable Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, emphasised that the fellowship is designed to develop a new generation of skilled and motivated healthcare leaders who can drive innovation and system-wide improvements.
“This groundbreaking initiative is set to develop a pipeline of healthcare leaders through strategic capacity building, professional development, and capstone field engagement,” he said.
“We encourage eligible young Nigerians to take advantage of this opportunity to contribute to reducing preventable diseases and strengthening the nation’s health system while gaining invaluable professional experience,” he added.
The Ministry urged interested applicants to visit the National Health Fellows website and submit their applications before the 30 November 2025 deadline, reaffirming that the programme represents a long-term investment in the future of Nigeria’s healthcare sector.
