The Ekiti State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to revolutionizing healthcare delivery, specifically focusing on the well-being of women and children. The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oyebanji Filani, announced that the state is prepared to expand access to quality medical services and sustain recent progress in the sector. This move aligns with the state's broader goal of providing a robust safety net for its most vulnerable populations.

Dr. Filani highlighted that a key priority for the administration is the completion of ongoing infrastructure projects across various healthcare facilities in the state. By upgrading these centers, Ekiti aims to ensure that residents do not have to travel long distances to receive professional medical attention. The Commissioner noted that modernizing facilities is a foundational step in creating a reliable and efficient healthcare system.
In a boost to local capacity, Ekiti State is partnering with the Federal Government on the National Health Fellows initiative. This program is designed to enhance service delivery by injecting fresh talent and expertise into the health sector. During a recent interview session in Ado Ekiti, the state prepared to select 16 fellows, ensuring that every local government area in the state benefits from this strategic injection of manpower.
The National Health Fellows program, now in its second batch, serves as a bridge between federal policy and local implementation. By placing one fellow in each of the 16 local government areas, the state ensures that rural communities receive the same level of attention as urban centers. This initiative is expected to streamline healthcare management and improve the overall patient experience at the primary healthcare level.

The Ministry of Health’s proactive approach has been met with praise from stakeholders who see the fellowship as a vital tool for systemic improvement. With the combination of new infrastructure and a strengthened workforce, Ekiti State is positioning itself as a leader in healthcare reform. The government’s pledge reflects a long-term vision of a healthy, productive populace supported by accessible medical care.
