A coalition of Ekiti indigenes living abroad has purchased the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship nomination form for Dr. Funso Ayeni, signalling its resolve to take an active role in the state’s political future.

Operating under the banner of the Continental Coalition of Ekiti in Diaspora (COCOED), the group said it could no longer remain on the sidelines while “deepening political crises” continued to erode governance and development in Ekiti.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Mr. Ayodele Daini, representing the coalition’s Canada chapter, explained that the decision followed an emergency virtual meeting involving members from the UK, Canada, Asia, Australia, and the United States.

Daini said the deliberations produced a unanimous resolution to commit resources toward rescuing the state from instability and dysfunction.

“After carefully reviewing the political landscape and the leading contenders, we found Prince Dr. Funso Ayeni to be the most formidable, credible, and unifying figure to steer Ekiti at this critical time,” he said.
He described Ayeni as “well-educated, experienced, clean, and unbiased,” noting that the aspirant embodies the “fresh breath of leadership” long desired by the people.

The coalition urged Ayeni to accept its call to service and appealed to political stakeholders, traditional rulers, and opinion leaders in Ekiti to support his candidacy as the state’s best chance for peace, stability, and progress.
