The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in collaboration with the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), has repatriated 51 foreign nationals convicted for cyber-terrorism and internet fraud.

The deportees, comprising 50 Chinese nationals and one Tunisian, were flown out of Nigeria on Thursday, August 21, 2025.

According to an EFCC statement, the exercise is part of an ongoing crackdown that has so far resulted in the removal of 102 foreign cybercrime convicts since August 15.

The repatriated individuals were among 192 foreign suspects arrested during a large-scale sting operation in Lagos, targeting one of the biggest foreign-led cybercrime syndicates operating in the country.

“This operation underscores our commitment to ensuring Nigeria does not serve as a sanctuary for international criminals,” the EFCC said. “The successful conviction and deportation of these individuals send a clear message that we will not tolerate the abuse of our digital space for crimes that threaten national security and economic stability.”

Officials disclosed that further deportations are scheduled as investigations and court processes involving other suspects continue.

The EFCC reaffirmed its resolve to collaborate with local and international agencies to curb transnational crime, warning that Nigeria’s cyberspace will not be left unprotected
