The Department of State Services (DSS) has filed cybercrime charges at the Federal High Court in Abuja against former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

According to court documents, the charges relate to alleged unlawful interception of communications linked to National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu. Prosecutors claim the act contravenes provisions of the Cybercrimes Amendment Act 2024 and the Nigerian Communications Act 2003.

The DSS alleges that El-Rufai admitted knowledge of the interception during a televised interview, raising serious national security concerns.

Legal experts note that the case could test the scope and enforcement mechanisms of Nigeria’s updated cybercrime legislation.

The trial is expected to attract significant public and political attention as proceedings unfold.
