Nigerians living in South Africa have mobilised en masse to support the Super Eagles as they face Bafana Bafana today in a decisive FIFA World Cup qualifier in Bloemfontein.

Dr. Frank Onyekwelu, President-General of the Nigerian Citizens Association in South Africa (NICASA), confirmed the mobilisation in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday.

“We are eager for victory and for Nigeria to qualify for the World Cup. Nigerians here have fully mobilised to cheer on the Super Eagles in today’s crucial match,” he said.

Onyekwelu explained that NICASA, working with the Nigerian Consulate in South Africa, had sensitised the community on the importance of showing strong support while maintaining peace and unity.

He emphasised that the organisation has been preaching tolerance, patriotism, and law-abiding conduct, introducing the “power of Mbotu”—a concept of African openness and unity—meant to foster harmony among rival fans.

To guarantee safety, NICASA has also been liaising with South African law enforcement and security agencies. “We have advised Nigerians to avoid confrontation or provocation before, during, and after the game,” Onyekwelu said.

Onyekwelu expressed confidence that the Super Eagles would feel the diaspora’s backing, saying: “One thing is sure—the Super Eagles will hear, see, and feel our support. We shall ginger them to victory.”
