A diaspora-based professional group, Omituntun Initiative in the Diaspora (OID), has extended heartfelt condolences to the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, following the passing of Ambassador Ibironke Apinke Adefope, a respected stateswoman and former Nigerian High Commissioner to Zambia and Malawi. She died at the age of 73.

In a statement signed by the group’s spokesperson, Barrister Ayotomiwa Adebayo, OID expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Ambassador Adefope as “an inspiration, a civil rights champion, and a legend who left a fundamental footprint on Oyo State and Nigerian politics.”
Ambassador Adefope, a revered member of the Oyo State Elders’ Council and Advisory Council, was widely acknowledged for her contributions to good governance and her pivotal role in Nigeria’s democratic evolution. The group praised her legacy of leadership, philanthropy, and public service, noting that she dedicated her life to uplifting underrepresented communities.
“Ambassador Adefope was a beacon of integrity who championed the cause of the underprivileged and remained committed to the ideals of service and equity. Her life was a model of selfless sacrifice and excellence,” the statement read.

OID emphasized that her loss is not only personal to her family and community but a collective bereavement for all Nigerians who believe in justice, service, and democratic ideals.
The group also extended prayers to the Oyo State Government, the Adefope family, and all who were touched by the late Ambassador’s life and work. “She has indeed fought the good fight, run the race, and finished her course. May her soul rest in perfect peace,” OID concluded.
Ambassador Ibironke Apinke Adefope is remembered not only for her diplomatic service but also for her enduring influence on state and national politics. She is survived by family, associates, and a grateful public.
