Speaking following his visit to the recent E1 Championship race in Monaco, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the event as a powerful demonstration of innovation, sustainability, and the transformative potential of clean energy technologies. He noted that bringing the championship to Lagos signals a significant milestone in the city’s global positioning and commitment to green development.

“This is more than a race,” the Governor stated. “It is a bold statement about where Lagos is headed toward a future that embraces sustainability, clean marine transportation, and international sporting excellence.”

The hosting of the E1 Championship aligns with Lagos State’s broader goals of promoting environmental responsibility and expanding opportunities in tourism, innovation, and infrastructure development. The event will serve as a platform to highlight the city’s unique culture, energy, and potential to a global audience.

Governor Sanwo-Olu also expressed gratitude to Afreximbank for its strategic partnership and investment in the championship, including its support for Team Drogba, one of the teams participating in the series. He acknowledged the bank’s role in enabling Lagos to deliver a world-class experience and amplify its presence on the international stage.

“Lagos is opening a new chapter,” Sanwo-Olu affirmed. “We are proud to be hosting a global sporting event that reflects our ambitions and invites the world to experience all that our city represents.”

The E1 Championship is expected to attract significant local and international interest, offering economic, cultural, and environmental benefits while reinforcing Lagos’ role as a forward-looking global city.
